Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy
A cholecystectomy is surgery to remove the gallbladder (a pear-shaped sac near the right lobe of the liver that holds bile). A gallbladder may need to be removed if the organ is prone to troublesome gallstones, if it is infected or has concerning growths.
This surgery may be done through minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, without the need for large incisions, minimising recovery time.
What can i expect?
You will be put under general anaesthesia and four small incisions are made in the abdomen. Dr. Hannington will use a laparoscope (a special camera) to visualise the gallbladder and then dissect and remove it through one of the small incisions. If need be, the surgery can be done through an open technique.
Recovery?
Most cases require just a single overnight stay in the hospital with another 7-14 days recovery before returning to any physically demanding work.
