Surgical Care

Dr Hannington is a general surgeon committed to delivering exceptional surgical care. This is reflected in his dedication to surgical excellence as well as his concern for the patient’s wellbeing. He favours minimally invasive procedures over more invasive options, thereby, minimising post-operative discomfort and reducing recovery time.

Surgical patients frequently present with other contributing or impacting conditions. Dr Hannington collaborates extensively with a strong network of colleagues to provide holistic patient care. He frequently attends multidisciplinary meetings where individual patients are discussed with a panel of experts to ensure the most tailored, evidenced based care is instituted. He also functions closely with the rehabilitation teams at the hospital he works at, to ensure expedited and holistic recovery from surgical conditions.

Endoscopic Procedures

Dr Hannington performs gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures as day case procedures. These are helpful for the diagnosis of gastrointestinal conditions as well as to remove unwanted growths such as polyps. Dr Hannington has recently gained an interest and skill in endoscopic procedures for weight loss. He has undergone extensive training in Germany and performs gastric balloon placement as well as a new cutting edge procedure, endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty.

“keyhole” Surgery

He has extensive experience in laparoscopic (“keyhole”) surgery. This is a surgical technique in which short, narrow tubes (ports) are inserted into the abdomen through small (5-10mm) incisions. Using narrow instruments, the surgeon can manipulate, cut, and stitch tissue. This has the advantages of less pain, smaller incisions, fewer wound complications, quicker post-operative recovery, and shorter duration of hospital stay.
