Colorectal Conditions

Colon Resection

Removal of part or the whole colon is sometimes required for both benign disease such as complicated diverticular disease or inflammatory bowel disease or for colon cancer. This may present symptomatically or be diagnosed at a routine screening colonoscopy. Dr Hannington has experience in performing laparoscopic and open colon surgery operations which may involve the removal of a part of the colon which may be reconnected together (anastamosed) or treated with the creation of a stoma. Complicated inflammatory bowel disease and rectal cancer will be referred to a subspecialised colorectal surgeon.

Anal Conditions

Anal pathology is common and may present as haemorrhoids, fissures, fistula or infections. Dr Hannington will be able to assess you in his rooms and advise on whether conservative , symptomatic treatment is appropriate or if surgery is necessary. Commonly performed procedures are: lateral sphincterotomy, haemorrhoid artery ligation, haemorrhoidectomy, operations for perianal fistula and incision and drainage or debridement for perianal infections.
